KIDS – we learn best doing what we do best: Play!

At Sharp Kids we are passionate about providing our children with a solid foundation. Our environment, highly qualified staff and superior facilities that allows  us to provide a child-centred haven that inspires creativity, discovery, exploration and problem solving through play-based activities that stimulate curiosity and fun.

SHARP KIDS ENVIRONMENT

We aim to create an environment that inspires children to want to come to school and who are enthusiastic about new experiences and information. We inspire our children to become masters of learning and to see this as a lifelong process.

On entering our small school you will notice that our class rooms differ from the standard. Each room is furnished to accommodate a specific part of our curriculum and is designed to give children the freedom to work in a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere. This not only helps to focus the children`s attention but creates a less mundane setting where nothing ever changes. It creates an environment for fun filled learning. Our engaging and ergonomic designed furniture is flexible, allowing for improved concentration and participation.

Our uncomplicated minimalistic décor supports the Montessori research that children get distracted by a busy room. Our sensory playground is designed to allow for free play and large motor skill development. It stimulates all senses and encourages interactive play.

At Sharp Kids we believe in a holistic approach where sound values are instilled to ensure the highest levels of all-round development of each child.

Sharp Kids caters for children between the ages of 2 and 6 years. Working with a more homogeneous group enables us to focus on their specific needs and developmental phase.

At Sharp Kids the classes are small, thereby enabling children to enjoy optimum teacher involvement. Children are given the freedom to express their individuality.

OUR GOALS & VALUES

WELL-BEING

Our teaching is play-based and classes of 35 – 40 minutes will be followed with scheduled 15 minute brain breaks to maximise learning.
At Sharp Kids we believe that exercise is the foundation for a child’s well-being and it helps to promote a good healthy lifestyle.

At Sharp Kids we teach in both Afrikaans and English.

Contrary to popular belief, research has shown that children at this age are particularly  good at mastering a second language and it is of great value for their overall brain development.

At Sharp Kids we believe in a holistic approach. We teach sound values to ensure the all-round development of each child.

Our aim is to help every child in our care to reach their full potential while promoting their unique individual talents. We believe that every child has the right to grow and learn in a stress-free environment that brings joy.

AUTONOMY

Every parent raising a pre-school child knows their child needs to be nurtured and helped to become independent – interpersonal skills that children still find difficult to communicate and that often result in endless battles. We understand that building self-confidence takes place in the early years and therefore we will encourage children to use their own initiative and support them to become independent thinkers. Where possible, children will be included in decision making and conflict resolution.

BELONGING

Sharp Kids takes an inclusive approach that promotes cooperation amongst all children. The teachers carefully design activities that develop team work and social skills where children are encouraged to help each other. Tolerance and understanding of others and different cultures are an important part of our learning process. Children are  taught to share and play together. We believe that if we celebrate each child’s uniqueness and learning, we can discourage bullying.

SHARING

Parents are the most important people in a child’s life. We strive to honour this relationship and make it even stronger by encouraging parents to be part of the school journey. Our open door policy makes it easy to immediately address problems should they arise and ensure that parents feel secure to leave their little ones in our care. We believe that communication between parents and the school are vital – what happens at home influences a child’s reaction at school and visa versa. To encourage this relationship parental group sessions are held and talks on various relevant topics are presented from time to time.
